We had been watching these wee birds in their nest high above in a scribbly gum tree and sighing over how darn cute they looked tucked into their nest; when today we found them stranded on the grass, their broken nest nearby and frantic parents hovering around. We had to act swiftly to save them from the Indian Mynah birds, so we wrapped them in a towel and tucked them in a box with their nest for comfort. I said a quick apology to the mama and papa and assured them we would take care of their babes.
WIRES thought we should try to coax the parents down to their babies but the only birds hovering around were those bloody Mynahs and one little fierce baby bird (we named him Chip) kept trying to run away so we transferred them to the homeschooling space and tried to feed them some meat....I did consider the practacalities of breastfeeding wee birdies but decided to forego the nipple trauma.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring a parental reunion....this mama already has three hungry chicks to feed.
