The ebb and flow of the journey

One of the things I love about the unschooling/homeschooling jouney is how completely different things can look month to month.
If you popped your head in on us about a month ago those of you with a "schooly" background which let's face it is just about everyone unless you've done some serious deschooling would have been mystified as to where the actual learning was taking place.
You see we were just having one of those learning by living kind of months. We baked, read, gamed (both electronically and old school), played and swam, drew and painted and talked. Oh my, did we talk!
Fast forward to this month and the arrival of the boys netbooks and we are suddenly looking like classical homeschoolers!
The study ladder website is getting a huge workout and we've just discovered Reading Eggspress which is suiting both my highly literate scholars.
Both of them have requested a "proper" science lesson so we're doing that once a week andeveryone has taken a self imposed break from gaming for awhile.
We've fallen into a mon-fri kind of schedule which is working for us at the moment. It's nice to know that on at least one of the weekend days we will all sloth, follow our own passions and I will be less "needed".
It also is conducive to finding time to do the study that papa and I are taking on. I'm starting an advanced diploma of naturopathy and papa is waiting to hear about a uni course whilst completeing some career related short courses. It's great to show the kids that you can learn at any age and papa has finally found a use for algebra with one of his courses. But of course he needs a refresher in algebra because who really listens in highschool math classes anyway?!
Eli is becoming more and more verbal and it's beautiful and exciting. He plays elaborate creative games and has just moved into a bedroom with his "best fwends" - Linkin and Scott.
It's exciting to be moving into a different season of parenting but as always we'll ride the ebb and flow of life.
