At least that's how it looks from the outside ;) that's the bonus of unschooling, learning experiences are just everywhere!!
We went to our first natural learners get together, I thought it was about time seeing as how we have been homeschooling for like...forever now!!
It was loads of fun. We went to Blackbutt Reserve near Newcastle where there are heaps of native animals to see-some caged and some roaming free. The grounds are beautiful; just like exploring the bush-except here you know you'll see a peacock or a goanna or one of those sweet little turtles.
The boys had fun "socialising" and even managed to learn some stuff!! Akira met a boy his own age who he is keen to see again and Links ran around like a mad man with the other testosterone fuelled 4 year olds.
Our next adventure took us to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Sadly there are no photos as there was a heavy Museum Nazi presence intent on squashing any inkling of childhood joy.
There was however 300kg of white LEGO to play with and construct elaborate brick architecture, this definitely sweetened the deal. The other exhibits were strange in that they were geared towards children, begging to be explored and yet they were STRICTLY off limits and guarded by moody hipsters dressed in all black.
Akira chatted to one of the hipsters about the wall made of moss and the walk-in kalideoscope and she was surprisingly taken with his unique appearance and unabashed artistic honesty.
We lunched with the other homeschoolers and took in the picturesque background of the Opera House and The Harbour Bridge and afterwards some of our city-wise friends took us to see a fantastic model of the city at Customs House.
There was a flurry of activity at the table today with the construction of comic books, mostly about Batman or LEGO characters. It was a great way for the boys to experiment with writing styles and language whilst pursuing one of their interests.
Papa has promised a trip to a proper comic book store so the boys are saving their pennies for some more inspiration.
We are deep in birthday preparation mode here, getting ready to celebrate 1 year of Elijah Bear being a beautiful boob monster. Stay tuned for cake and milky grins.

That's the 3rd blog I've read about the photo nazis at the MCA trip - they must've been bad!!
We had a great time at Blackbutt too - looking forward to catching up with you guys again.
It was great to meet you at Blackbutt Reserve. Many of us were meeting each other for the first time ... there have been so many new faces lately, both Natural Learners and local home ed. in general. My kids also had a wonderful day.
Why DO galleries etc. do that??? Especially as, in kids eyes, the world BELONGS to them! Hope it was fun anyway.
I'm glad to have come across your blog today. See you around again, I hope!
:) Vanessa
