It didn't happen overnight, but it did happen...my baby grew up. He is still a baby in so many ways but also becoming such an independent little soul.
He loves to wander freely around the backyard, seek out the boys playing LEGO and try to scale the babygate(!!!) and hang out eating yoghurt with his papa. Of course I am still totally needed because I have the magic boobies, but he is confident to wander off knowing that he can grab a mouthful whenever he needs to.
For almost a week prior to his birthday he woke up really wriggly and unsettled for about an hour between 3-4am (he was born at 4.18am) and it had me wondering if he was syncing somehow with his time wombside. On the morning of his birthday he had been sleeping peacefully and woke around 4am and wanted to lie skin to skin and boob for a bit but he was so peaceful and content not at all like the previous nights. Kinda weird, maybe a little silly but just an observation.
We gave him a soft puppy toy as he seems to have this fondness for dogs that will never result in an actual live dog due to a few of us having dog fear and me having a fear of cleaning up after another thing that poops.
Papa came home early and helped with the birthday feast and gave the birthday boy lots of cuddles and puppy dog play.
We celebrated with a bird themed birthday cake to honour his love of bird chasing in the backyard.
The older boys have been enjoying the recent subscription to The Daily Telegraph, sitting around like old men reading the paper and sipping hot cocoa.
Still struggling to record LEGO and Nintendo in educational terms without feeling like a total fraud. I'm just making myself available for the times when they want to do things more easily classified as learning and chanting the mantra, "This too shall pass" :)
We have moved on to our next book in the Little House series and have been having fun exploring www.mathcats.com
On other exciting news...it's papa's last day today before HOLIDAYS (It just had to be shouted!!), we have some projects to do in the garden and house and also one week of camping-YAY!!
Eli and I are off for a weekend trip to my sister's wedding, it will be so good to see everyone again. Then home for papa's birthday~~I wonder if a certain boy can keep a secret until I get home....
