We finally lost our public transport virginity and ventured out into the big wide world on the train to the aquarium. Some of us were a little less patient than others during the journey but cookies and books seemed to settle us all as they usually do.
Once we reached the aquarium I was actually already exhausted and had a brief moment of empathy for the intercity train commuters who do it day in and day out but then remembered they get to chill out with their ipod's and snooze for their train journey not write the book on "101 things to do when your 2yr old is freaking out on the train" so I felt justified in my needs for pre-aquarium coffee.
The beautiful soothing underwater world of the aquarium lived up to the 15yr old memory I had stored and we began our somewhat hurried journey (one of the members was busting to get to the barrier reef section) with lots of photo op's-------cue the picture gallery--------
The highly sought after "Nemo" fish and on the right a fish that would just not stay still no matter how many frames Akira clicked off.
Really, could Steve Parish have taken a better shot? possibly he wouldn't have gone down the "posessed glowing eyed demon turtle" route but isn't art subjective?
This Manta Ray was the most spectacular thing to watch and subsequently Akira's favourite thing, although not colourful it was like a magic carpet sailing above us.
It was exhausting but so worth it, not only the look of wonder and huge smiles on the boy's faces but the head swell I got when Akira was conversing with the Aquarium staff about Coral, Plankton and homeschooling. It has a way of stomping on any of those little negative thoughts of self doubt you have when you can see all the benefits and positives of homeschooling coming together.
